I saw an old man
Wearing a ring
Calling loudly to someone
Who could not be seen

His words were so desperate
I heard them so clear
I wanted to help him
But could not get near.....

I saw the moon, silver and full
Stars in the nights greying hair
Saw blackbirds fly, like ash on the sky
Smelled smoke but saw no fire

Then I saw a woman
Step from the shadow
She whispered in his ear
And then turned to go

But first she reached out
To hold his thin hand
She kissed his bent fingers
And stole the golden band.....

I watched her run into the sun
It rose blazing from the land
Her eyes met mine, I saw them shine
Like polished jewels in the sand

My Rosemarie woke me
From this terrifying dream
Like the sun's rays through a storm
Her words they did stream

I knew that I had returned
From a place without hope
I felt like a hanged man
Who had broken the rope.....

I spoke the words that I had heard
Said so sad in my dream
When the old man asked the woman
Who had sowed what he must reap

She asked me what this meant
And I grew angry
Can I give explanations
For what phantoms say

And a knock on the door

So I turned on my TV
To fill the silence
Saw armies were growing to
to banish violence.....
